William "Bill" Veach

William G. “Bill” Veach, age 56, of Brainard, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in Omaha. He was born on December 5, 1969, in Fremont, Nebraska, to Gayle and Bonnie (Bridge) Veach.

Bill was active in Boy Scouts during his youth and graduated from Wahoo High School in 1988. He later earned an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Metro Tech. Early in his working life, Bill was self-employed in lawn care before beginning a long and dedicated career with the City of Fremont. Over 33 years of service, he worked as an arborist, served on the street department crew and, most recently, worked as an equipment operator.

On March 5, 1997, Bill met Rita Sabata on a blind date. The two were married on August 27, 2005, in Brainard. Together, they built their dream home on Rita’s family farm outside of Brainard, where they made their life and raised a small herd of cattle.

Bill enjoyed traveling to Ohio to visit relatives and was well known for his sense of humor and his enjoyment of meeting and talking with people. He had a natural curiosity and took great pleasure in tinkering with machinery and equipment, making repairs, and learning how things worked. Tools were always close at hand.

Bill is survived by his wife, Rita Veach of Brainard; his brothers Jim (Valerie) Veach of Malmo, and John Veach of Lincoln; his aunt Mary K. Bower of Harpster, Ohio; many cousins; and his beloved canine companions, Belle and Ace. He was preceded in death by parents Gayle and Bonnie Veach; father-in-law and mother-in-law Richard and Ruth Sabata; and brother-in-law Gregory Sabata.

Visitation will be 5-7 pm Monday at the Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo. Interment will be at Sunrise North Cemetery. Memorials may be made to family choice.
