Wayne E. Vermeline, age 85 of Malmo, died Monday, November 4, 2013 in Wahoo. He was born April 12, 1928 in Malmo to Victor and Adeline (Sorenson) Vermeline. Wayne attended country school at District 85 through the eighth grade and graduated from Malmo High School in 1945. He was baptized and confirmed at Edensburg Lutheran Church and remained a faithful member throughout his life. On October 2, 1949, he married Marian Lindgren. Wayne was an avid collector, and converted a hog shed into a museum to house his restored tractors, tools and other farming memorabilia. He was active in the Camp Creek Threshers, Nebraska Barb Wire Association, Big Red Collectors Chapter 12, Saunders County Feeders Association, Nebraska Antique Power Association, Saunders County Farm Bureau, and the Saunders County Historical Society. For 37 years, Wayne served as a volunteer with the Malmo Fire Department. Over the years, Wayne participated in many tractor drives across Eastern Nebraska, and logged more than one thousand miles on one of his favorite classic tractors. He is survived by his wife Marian of Malmo; daughters Connie Whyrick of Lincoln, Susan (Rick) Brockhoff of Lincoln; son Leon (Patty) Vermeline of Colon; grandchildren Aaron (Katie) Vermeline of Lincoln, Adam Whyrick of Lincoln, Tiffany Vermeline of Kansas City MO, Austin (Amy) Vermeline of Malmo, Jaclyn Vermeline (special friend Travis Bennett) of Wahoo, Jenna (Capt. Cale) Farquhar of Fort Hood TX; great-grandchildren Noah and Atley Whyrick, Alice Farquhar, and Austin and Amy's soon to be born child; brother Darwin (Sharon) Vermeline of Malmo; nieces, nephews and many friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Victor and Adeline (Sorenson) Vermeline and brother Gayle Vermeline. Serving as Casket Bearers will be Aaron Whyrick, Adam Whyrick, Austin Vermeline, Jon Williams, Travis Bennett and Dennis Stuchlik. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Tiffany Vermeline, Jaclyn Vermeline, Katie Whyrick, Jenna Farquhar, Capt. Cale Farquhar and Amy Vermeline. Memorials may be made to the family for a later designation.
