Valerie M Witte

Valerie M. Witte, age 74 of Yutan, died at her home Tuesday, August 16, 2016. She was born January 15, 1942 in Wahoo to William and LaVerne (Kubalek) Vavak. She graduated from Mead High School, and earned a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. On October 13, 1962, she married Willard Witte in Lincoln. Valerie taught for seven years in the Millard Public Schools. For the next ten years, she stayed at home to raise her son, Craig. She served as a substitute teacher during that time, and returned to the classroom fulltime as a third grade teacher in Yutan where she remained for 22 years. She retired in 2001. Valerie had a special love for children, whether it was her own family members, her third grade students or the youth at her church where she helped with the Wednesday Night Youth Group for many years, and was most recently active in the Back Pack Program. She spent countless hours designing and meticulously piecing together beautiful quilts. Valerie shared her sewing skills with others by teaching sewing classes. She is survived by her husband Willard Witte; son and daughter-in-law Craig and Rhonda Witte; and granddaughter Hayley Witte, all of Yutan; brother and sister-in-law Garwood Vavak and Denise Sierra of Chelsea, AL; brother-in-law Frederick (Linda) Witte of Omaha; cousins, nieces and nephew. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
