Theola M. Svoboda

Theola M. Svoboda (Zechin) was born January 25, 1933 in Stanton, Nebraska to Harold H. Zechin and Stacie (Krbel) Zechin and passed away October 1, 2021 at the Long Term Care Center in Wahoo, Nebraska at the age of 88 years, 8 months, and 6 days. At and early age, Theola and her family relocated to Idaho where she graduated from Kuna High School. She moved to Fremont, Nebraska where she received her Teaching Certificate in 1951 from Midland College after which she taught for one year. She was united in marriage to Richard D. Svoboda on June 8, 1952. She and Richard located in Wahoo where Richard built their home on 9th Street and they raised their family. Theola was employed in the automotive industry as an office manager and bookkeeper for more than 26 years for the dealerships of Wahoo Ford Sales, Anderson Auto, Frohner Auto, Rolfsmeier Auto (Seward), Dean’s Ford and Marty Swanty Dodge. She was also employed by the following businesses for various periods of time: Wahoo Auto Supply, Atlas Missile Base, First National Bank, Hinky Dinky, Sears and Burger King. After she retired from the automotive industry in the early 90’s she started her “mini” farm on which she raised miniature horses, Dexter cattle, chickens, geese, turkeys, peacocks, and a llama. She enjoyed having the grandchildren and great-grandchildren as frequent visitors enjoying the farm experience. Theola was preceded in death by her parents Harold Zechin and Stacie (Zechin) Amos; husband Richard D. Svoboda; in-laws Joseph and Myrtle Svoboda; brother Gene Zechin; and brother-in-law Kenneth Vybiral. She is survived by her children David (Donita) Svoboda of Seward, NE, Larry (Lynnette) Svoboda of Highland Ranch, CO, Wayne (Katie) Svoboda of Gilbert, AZ, Diane Duba (friend Kubie) of Lincoln, NE; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother Earl (Shirley) Amos of Federal Way, WA; sister Vanetta (David) Lomax of Covington, GA; brother-in-law Joseph (Joni) Svoboda of Fremont, NE; and sister-in-law Marlene Vybiral of Wahoo, NE. The family of Theola M. Svoboda will be holding a Memorial Service on April 23, 2022. The family invites friends to meet at the Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home, 911 N. Linden St., at 10:30 AM and then will proceed to Sunrise Cemetery for internment of her ashes. A luncheon will be provided by the family at the Union Bank and Trust following the interment. In lieu of flowers, Theola’s family requests donations to your favorite charity in her name.
