Sue A. Lucas, age 63 of Wahoo, died Thursday, October 17, 2013 in Wahoo. She was born July 6, 1950 in Red Cloud, NE to Gene and Darlene (Brooks) Brumbaugh. Sue attended county school then graduated from Red Cloud High School in 1968. As a girl, she was involved in 4-H, showed dairy cattle, and helped care for her family's pet raccoon. After earning an Associated Degree from Hasting Community College, she worked as a church secretary in Hastings. On November 3, 1973 she married the love of her life, Wayne Lucas, in Red Cloud. They moved Wahoo in 1974 and Sue became employed as Office Manager at the Wahoo Newspaper. She remained at the Wahoo Newspaper for nearly 40 years. In addition to her newspaper duties, Sue regularly volunteered in the Election Commissioners Office to help prepare for balloting. During the past several years, she redecorated her home and continued to do most of the yard work. Sue was a zealous farmer's market shopper and put her bounty to good use as "the best darn cook." She eagerly anticipated the weekends when she could spend time with her daughter and granddaughter, shopping and enjoying lunch together. Sue always made sure Allie was "dressed to the nines", and she appeared happiest when the two of them were curled up reading books. Sue is survived by her husband Wayne of Wahoo; daughter and son-in-law Sarah and Aaron Virchow and granddaughter Allie Virchow of Lincoln; mother Darlene Brumbaugh of Red Cloud; brothers Curt (Mary) Brumbaugh of Red Cloud, Craig Brumbaugh of Franklin, NE, Ron (Sheila) Brumbaugh of Red Cloud; and sister-in-law Jean (Michael) Hamik of Grand Island. She was preceded in death by her father, Gene Brumbaugh. Serving as casket bearers will be Sue's brothers and nephews, Curt Brumbaugh, Craig Brumbaugh, Ron Brumbaugh, Blake Brumbaugh, Skylar Brumbaugh and Adam Brumbaugh. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
