Steven Terry Snelling

Steven Terry Snelling, 81, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on May 8th, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Steve was born and raised in Wahoo, Nebraska and graduated from Wahoo High School in 1963.

Steve served his country in the United States Air Force as a Sergeant, where he was stationed in Germany and trained as an Aircraft Control and Warning Operator.

Steve built a life of quiet service and steady dedication. He worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads, as a surveyor, as a Fremont Reserve Police Officer, and gave additional years to the National Guard.

In the final chapter of his career, Steve worked as a janitor at the Fremont Friendship Center. After retirement, he continued returning to the Friendship Center to enjoy dancing, listening to music, playing cards, and the company of the many people who had become dear to him. He was also an avid dog lover, bird and squirrel watcher, and woodworker.

Steve was a faithful supporter of UNL volleyball and football and also had a keen curiosity about the wider world. He explored the rugged beauty of Northern Ireland and Scotland, the Pacific Northwest, Arizona, and traveled all around China, always returning home enriched by what he found.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Kathryn Ann (Ohm) Snelling; his four children, Kimberly (Jonathan) Dallas of Portland, Oregon, Rebecca (Jared) Wood of Lincoln, Nebraska, Mark Snelling of Omaha, Nebraska, and Jennifer (William) Henderson of Fremont, Nebraska; and his eight grandchildren, Isaac Wood, Gemma Dallas, Angus Dallas, Aiden Wood, Gabriel Snelling, Abigail Henderson, Sophia Henderson, and Samuel Snelling, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Snelling; his mother, Rosella (Ohm) Snelling; and his brothers, Curtis Snelling and Allan Snelling.

In keeping with Steve’s spirit, there will be no formal funeral. A celebration of his life will be held in the autumn among close friends and family. In lieu of flowers please send donations to his home away from home, the Fremont Friendship Center, 1730 West 16th Street, Fremont, Nebraska, 68025.
