Steven Markle, age 71, of Omaha, passed away leaving behind a life remembered for faith, family, friendship, and his lifelong love of the cowboy way.
Steve was born September 7, 1954, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, to Merton and Janet “Dolly” (Baker) Markle. He enjoyed a happy childhood surrounded by a close-knit family and graduated from Perham High School in Perham, Minnesota, with the class of 1972.
Steve was a born-again Christian who freely shared his faith with others. He had a kind spirit and was involved for many years with the Big Brothers Big Sisters Of America.
A lifelong cowboy at heart, Steve loved western movies and television. Among his favorites were Rex Allen, Roy Rogers, John Wayne, and Bonanza. He also enjoyed writing western-themed short stories as a hobby. His favorite horse, an Arabian stallion named Rimfire, was his pride and joy. He also dearly loved his dogs, including King and an Irish Setter named Brandy.
Steve is survived by his sister, Janet (Rob) Altmanshofer of Inman, South Carolina; brother, David Markle of Wahoo; nephews, Josh (Allison) Altmanshofer, Richard Altmanshofer, and Alex Altmanshofer; four great-nieces; and his best friend since kindergarten, Ken Hollst
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merton and Janet “Dolly” Markle, and his “little brother,” Mike Giddens.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home in Wahoo. Private interment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plattsmouth.
