Shirley J. Houfek

Shirley J. Houfek, age 78 of Wahoo, died Sunday, September 29, 2013 in Wahoo. She was born January 16, 1935 at Oakland, CA to Alfred and Marjorie Morse. On December 17, 1955 she married Robert L. Houfek in Berkley, CA. The couple moved to Colon, NE where they farmed. Shirley flourished in the quiet farm life of Nebraska. She spent her days caring for her family - cooking, gardening and canning, and raising her three children. Shirley was a member of the Bethesda Covenant Church in Malmo for many years and, later, joined the First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo. After moving to Wahoo, Shirley enjoyed crocheting and having coffee with friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; brother Bill Morse; sister Barb Patrick; and son-in-law Scott Maly. Shirley is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Steve "Rusty" and Debbie Houfek of Malmo; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Kevin Christensen of Manassas, VA; daughter Susan Maly of Walton, NE; grandchildren Brian Irmer, Travis Houfek, Katherine Christensen, Lindsey Christensen, Kaela Christensen, Lucas Christensen, and Marissa Maly. Serving as casket bearers will be Tim Hall, Chad Hall, Brian Irmer and Travis Houfek. Memorials to Family's Choice.
