Serretta "Sam" Winchell

Serretta F. “Sam” Winchell, age 68 of Wahoo, died Wednesday, March 1, 2023 in Wahoo. She was born August 2, 1954 in Crete to Douglas Winchell Sr. and Betty (Vergith) Winchell. When Sam was a child, her family moved to Ithaca where Sam attended grade school. She later transferred to Mead schools and graduated from Wahoo High School. In the late 1970s Sam moved to Wahoo where she worked at Fairview Café, Gas n Shop, and as Manager of BP/Amoco. Sam moved to Florida for a short time but anxiously returned to Wahoo. Sam was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she volunteered in various activities. Sam was a Gold Star of the Wahoo VFW Auxiliary.

Sam was an artistic person who loved to draw and color. She enjoyed camping at Lake Wanahoo and playing cards with friends. A huge sports fan, Sam was a fixture at local sporting events. Everyone who knew Sam found her to be a real people person.

She is survived by her siblings Dianne Jones, Holiday, FL, Iva (Darrell) Carlson, Wahoo, William (Kathy) Winchell, Delta, CO, Lorene Winchell, Holiday, FL; best friend Sandy Peters, Wahoo; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral services are set for 11:00 am Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Indian Mound Cemetery, Ithaca.
