Ruth Marie "Teta" Pokorny October 18, 1930 " May 13, 2013, age 82 Ruth was born into the farm family of Joseph F. and Francis E. (Houfek) Pokorny in rural Wahoo, Nebraska in Saunders County. Growing up, Ruth attended the nearby Czech Presbyterian Church and later attended the First Baptist Church in Weston. Ruth completed grade school in rural school district #71 and graduated from the Weston High School in 1948. Ruth never married, but stayed on the family farm to take care of her ailing parents. Over time, Ruth turned her dedication and gift of caring for others into an occupation when she went to work at the Wahoo Hospital as a Nurse's Aide for nearly eighteen years in the 70s and 80s. Ruth moved from the family farm to an apartment in Wahoo around 1976. Ruth was active in several Ladies' Aid organizations as well as the Christian Women's Club and assisted with Vacation Bible Schools until she was no longer able to do so. Ruth strongly believed in the power of prayer and reverently participated in several prayer circles. Ruth had a very nurturing spirit and an appreciation for plants and flowers, spending many hours tending to her flower garden. She was always there to help when family or friends gathered to can vegetables, or to make pies. But Ruth's greatest love on earth was caring for and nurturing babies and children. And to that end, she spent many hours helping to care for and help raise many of her nieces and nephews. For the last ten years of her life, Ruth was thrilled to have Sam and Allison in the same house as her, and her door was always unlocked so they could walk into her life and she into theirs. Ruth was modest and humble, and never boastful; she was a devout Christian who used the materials God provided to the fullest extent, always seeking out ways to assist and help others. Ruth lived a simple and honest life and taught others to never talk poorly of others. Ruth was always on the lookout for those that might be less fortunate. She made quilts with the Church Ladies Aid groups which were donated to local missions. Ruth loved to embroider and decorated pillow cases, dish towels, and wall hangings as special gifts for her nieces and nephews. Ruth also enjoyed singing and performed often with other ladies for the Weston Memorial day services, Christmas on the Prairie and other celebrations and events. Ruth is survived by her sister-in-law Elaine (Buresh) Pokorny, nieces and nephews - Lois (John) Carlson, Paula (Doug) King, Allon "Max' (Rae-Anne) Anderson, Lt. Col. David (Sue) DuBois, Karen (Kirk) Kavan, Laurie (Jim) Martens, Jeanette (Doug) Stuart, and Jim Pokorny. Her great-nieces and nephews include Sarah Carlson; Aaron (Abbie) King, Michelle King; Adam Simanek, Amanda Simanek, Ashleigh Simanek; Malinda DuBois, Erica Weatherwax, Sam DuBois, Allison DuBois, great-grandnephew Tyren Anderson (son of Ashleigh).
