Roy W. Timm, Jr., age 85 of Ithaca, died Friday, April 6, 2013 at his home. He was born in Wahoo on April 1, 1928 to Roy and Hedwig (Schlage) Timm and was raised on the family farm southwest of Ithaca. He moved to Iowa at an early age, graduated from high school at Green, IA and became interested in aviation. Roy traded labor for flying time and instruction from a farmer/flight instructor who had a strip on a farm near Floyd, Iowa. After earning his Commercial License, he sprayed crops, ferried planes from Lockhaven and became involved in the airshow business. Roy was inducted into the United States Army on November 17, 1950 and served as part of the 188th Airborne Infantry Regiment. Following his separation from military service on November 21, 1952, Roy returned home to the family farm and worked at the airport in Fremont. Roy instructed, flew charter flights, sprayed crops and returned to the airshow business. In 1955, he earned his Airline Transport Rating and moved back to Keokuk, Iowa to fly for the Hoerner Box Company when the company bought its first plane. This was the start of a 30-year corporate aviation career. After he retired in 1982, Roy returned to the family farm near Ithaca. He began flight instructing for American Central Airlines and Mid-Continent Airlines of Omaha and COMAIR in Cincinnati. During this time Roy checked instructors, pilots, and students. He passed on knowledge gained from more than forty years and 30,000 hours of flying. Much of his time in the air was spent at the controls of a Beachcraft King Air plane with the tail number 772K. In 1996, Roy was inducted into the Nebraska Aviation Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Phillips. Roy is survived by his wife Betty of Ithaca; sons and daughters-in-law Roy and Melissa Timm of Ithaca, Mark and Tara Timm of Ithaca, Ron and Collette Timm of Davenport, IA; daughter Ronda Phillips of Ithaca; brothers and sisters-in-law Marvin and Charlotte Timm of Omaha, Ivan and Jean Timm of Omaha; sister Mae Brown of Gulfport, MS; grandchildren Douglas (Chelsea) Timm of Norman, OK, Robert (Heather) Timm of Omaha, Becky (Scott) Chandler of Lawton, OK, Samantha Timm of Ithaca, Tyler Timm of Ithaca, Annika Timm of Davenport, IA, and Spencer Timm of Davenport, IA.
