Rosemary L. Shanahan

Rosemary Louise Shanahan, age 95 of Wahoo, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln. Rosemary was born August 6, 1929 in Greenwood, Nebraska to Leo and Ferne (Dimmitt) Peters. She was united in marriage to John F. Shanahan on May 26, 1948 at First United Methodist Church in Wahoo.

She earned a teaching certificate at Luther College in Wahoo and then taught in country school. After starting a family, she taught piano lessons in her home for many years. In the early 1970s she began working at Westward as a teacher’s aide until her retirement.

Rosemary was devoted to writing entries in her journal chronicling her thoughts and activities. She enjoyed gardening, reading, quilting, and was an active member of her church for over 75 years. She appreciated her many friends who stopped by for coffee, and she stayed in contact with her grandchildren through Facetime and Zoom. Every day she made time to play the piano, and cherished the times her friend Linda Leslie joined her.

Rosemary is survived by her five children: Margaret (Bob) Cherovsky, Pat Hutchinson, Susan (Dave) Bigelow, Tim (Barb) Shanahan, and Allan Shanahan; grandchildren Kurt (Trina) Cherovsky, Heidi Nadrchal, Kellye (Joe) LaSorsa, Benjamin Shanahan, Mallory (Asa) Toney, and Will (Fiance Suzanne) Shanahan; 8 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren with the 4th on the way; many nieces and nephews.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband John; parents Leo and Ferne; brother Leo Floyd Peters; sister Marjorie Ecklund; sons-in-law Brandon Bigelow and Leon McConnell.
