Robert W. Yarmon

Robert "Bob" William Yarmon of Wahoo passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the age of 87 in Wahoo. Bob was born on October 6, 1928 to Earl and Mabel Yarmon in Colon, NE. He graduated from Wahoo High School (District 39) in 1947 and worked several odd jobs before going to work for the City of Wahoo Electric Department. Bob was employed by the City of Wahoo for 39 years until his retirement in 1989. In 1950 Bob married Shirley Van Metre and they had three children, Steve, Jan, and Nancy. Bob was very involved in his community, serving as Assistant Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 140 for five years and Scout Master for four years. He served for 12 years on the Wahoo school board, and 14 years on the Fremont school board. Bob was a volunteer fireman for 35 years. He owned and operated Bob's Tree Service for 25+ years. A member of First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo since 1941, Bob served as a Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School Co-Superintendent. In 1967 Bob became a member of the Wahoo Masonic Lodge #59 where he served as Master for two years during his 47 year membership. He was also a member of the Wahoo Fraternal Order of the Eagles. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, camping with his family, hunting and dancing at Star Lite ballroom. Bob is preceded in death by both of his parents, brothers Kenneth and Leroy Yarmon, and sister Leona Yarmon, son-in-law Michael Tortora and grandson Matthew Robert Tortora. He is survived by his children Steve Yarmon of Wahoo, NE, Jan (Ray) Malousek of rural Wahoo, and Nancy Tortora of Ridgefield, CT; grandchildren Jeff Malousek of Wahoo, Kristy (Loran) Fortik of Wahoo, Peter Tortora and Owen Tortora, both of Ridgefield, CT; great-grandchildren Tyson and Haley Malousek, Hudson and Hadley Fortik; and dear friend Alice Erickson. Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church. Casket Bearers will be Mike Yarmon, Pete Yarmon, Stan Yarmon, Peter Tortora, Owen Tortora and Jeff Malosek. Honorary casket bearers will be Burton Knudsen and Jared Ketner. Masonic Lodge #59 A.F.&A.M will conduct the Masonic Funeral Rite.
