Robert Charles Hall was born November 23, 1956, in Wahoo, NE to Robert J. Hall and Dona
Lee Hall. Rob grew up on a farm north of Memphis, NE with his brothers and sister. He
attended school in Mead until 1972 when he transferred to Wahoo High School from which Rob
would graduate in 1975.
Rob and his wife Shelli were married in 1979. Rob spent time farming his homestead with his
brother Mike in the early 1980’s before he and his family moved from the country to Wahoo
where they would raise their two children Robbie and Amanda.
Rob began working with local 39 in Omaha in 1975 and later joined the apprenticeship and
earned his mechanics card. He spent 10 years running work for large, industrial projects. He
was later elected Local 39 Vice President and Organizer; and from 1996 until 2007 he served as
Business Manager for the local. Beyond leading Local 39, Rob served as Trustee for the
Omaha and Southwest Iowa Building and Construction Trades Council and as the Chairman of
the Industrial Committee. In addition, Rob served on numerous labor-focused committees and
boards. In 2008, Rob was appointed as an International Representative serving the Insulators
Union in many capacities throughout the United States and Canada until his retirement in 2020.
Rob traveled all over throughout his career and after retirement, and was blessed to share many
of his journeys with Shelli. He loved a good meal, a good view, and good company. He would
argue he had the very best company in his wife Shelli. Rob shared a mutual love of history with
Shelli, which is reflected in their beautiful home and pristine restoration of their historic General
Store in Weston, NE.
Rob had an inherent passion for classic cars and hot rods. Rob’s fervor translated into beautiful
automotive restorations. This is just one example of his talents, as it seems there was nothing
he couldn't fix, and no question he couldn’t answer. He was always helping others, whether he
was offering advice, doing a favor, or simply making people laugh.
Grandpa Rob found immense joy in spending time with his two grandchildren, Baxter and Pippa.
He was always their biggest fan at basketball and volleyball games. Rob took his grandchildren
on several trips, but with Rob they truly were adventures. His thoughtful nature, and wonderful
sense of humor made every minute with him fun, special, and unforgettable.
Rob passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on April 26. He is survived by
his wife of 44 years, Rachelle Hall, his son Robert B. Hall, and his daughter and son-in-law
Amanda and Eric Scherer. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Friends and family are invited for a remembrance gathering to be held on Wednesday, May 8,
from 6:00-8:00 pm at the education building on the east side of Lake Wanahoo.
