Richard Charles Jurgens, age 72 of Wahoo, died Monday, February 8, 2016 in Fremont. He was born September 16, 1943 in Lubbock, Texas to Henry and Helen (Langdale) Jurgens. In 1961, Dick graduated from High School in Glenwood, Iowa. In 1965, he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1970. He married Sandra Kay Hraben on July 20, 1974. Richard enjoyed working with his hands and was never one to sit idle. He purchased homes with architectural character and restored them while he and his family lived in them. Dick was a founding member of the Kingsmen Car Club and a longtime member of the Wahoo Car Club. He spent countless hours in his garage meticulously restoring vintage cars. His respect for items from a bygone era didn't end with cars. Richard collected antiques of many kinds and once even had a considerable collection of flags. For a time, he owned and operated Aardvark Antiques in Lincoln where he bought and sold antiques on consignment. Dick was a hard-working man who enjoyed a successful career which included a wide range of jobs. He worked at Western Electric in Omaha, was a Mechanic at Platte Valley Equipment for many years, worked at Platte Valley Foods and Great American Appetizers in Wahoo and American Building Components in Mead. Richard began a career as a Nebraska Law Enforcement Officer in 1980. In 1983, he worked as a Nebraska Department of Roads Carrier Enforcement Officer and became a State Patrolman in 1985. He also worked for Economy Housing in Wahoo. Beginning in 1973, Dick served a four year term on the Saunders County Board of Supervisors. He is survived by his son Nicholas John Jurgens; daughter Cassandra Kay Jurgens; grandson Zavier Jeremiah Jurgens; and brother and sister-in-law Bill and Linda Jurgens. Richard was preceded in death by his wife Sandra Kay Jurgens; parents Henry and Helen Jurgens; sisters Bette Rae Rezek and Ruth Ann Jurgens. Memorials may be made to the Jurgens Family for a Later Designation.
