Ralph E. Houfek, age 90 of Wahoo, died Thursday, September 30, 2021 in Wahoo. He was born in Wahoo to Joseph Houfek, Jr. and Hazel (Person) Houfek on December 11, 1930. Ralph grew up near Malmo where he attended District 85 School and Edensburg Lutheran Church. He graduated from Malmo High School in 1948. Following graduation, Ralph worked for a few years before he was drafted into the Unites States Army during the Korean War. He served in Germany from January 8, 1953 through December 9, 1953. Following his military service, Ralph returned to Wahoo where, on May 19, 1955, he married Donna Lou Anderson at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Together, they raised sons Leigh and twins Keith and Kenneth. Through the years Ralph worked at Zimmerman Service, and Torrens Produce. Ralph is mostly remembered for the many years he spent working as a custodian at Wahoo Public Schools. Ralph was a tremendous dog lover and had a special relationship with each of his pets. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He is survived by his sons Leigh Houfek (Julie Thompson) of Lincoln, Keith (Cynthia) Houfek of Roca, Kenneth Houfek of Wahoo; grandson Kevin Houfek of Firth; great-grandson Boede Houfek of Firth; and sister Dorothy Peterson of Wahoo. Preceding Ralph in death were his wife Donna; and sister Alice Chadwick. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 5 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Monday at the funeral home. Interment, with Military Funeral Honors, will be at Sunrise Cemetery. Memorials are requested to the family for later designations.
