Norma Mae Barry, age 83 of Wahoo, passed on July 3,2023 at South Haven Living Center. She was born May 7, 1940 to Louis and Helen (Kliment) Placek. Norma graduated from Weston High School in 1958 and attended Nebraska Wesleyan for one year following graduation. Norma was united in marriage to Warren L. Barry on July 23, 1960 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo. They lived in rural Weston from 1960 to 1975. In 1975 they built a new home near Malmo. Norma moved to Wahoo in 2022 after selling their beloved farm.
Norma was a devoted wife and mother and loved life on the farm. She worked for Wahoo Built and then as a dental office receptionist for many years. Norma was very active as a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian women’s group. She was an officer for the Weston Alumni Committee and volunteered at the Saunders County Historical Society and local 4-H Clubs. She was a member of the Weston area Extension Club.
Norma loved to travel and took two memorable overseas trips and experienced many adventures with Warren in the United States. She dearly loved watching and supporting her grandchildren in school events and activities. Being a crafty and creative person, she was known for her handiwork with ceramics. Norma created many beautiful pieces in her kiln.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 60 years Warren Barry; sister Venis Reitmajer; brothers-in-law Murv Barry and Daryl Reitmajer; niece Susan Barry McCready; nephews Scott Barry and Daniel Reitmajer. Norma is survived by her three children Lynae (Steve) Callan of Wahoo, Russell (Carrie) Barry of Wahoo, Ryan (Jennifer) Barry of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren Alex, Evan and Kristin Callan, Adam (Rachel) Barry, Justin (Jessica) Barry, and Jessica (Patrick) Kurth, Hudson, Dane and Preston Barry; 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Friday, July 14, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday at Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home. Interment will be at Sunrise North Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Saunders County Historical Society, or Malmo Fire Department.
