Merton L. 'Bud' Markle, age 92 of Wahoo died Friday, August 25, 2017 in Wahoo. He was born December 7, 1924 at Battle Lake, Minnesota to Grant and Silva (Murdoch) Markle. At the age of four, Bud moved with his family to Parkers Prairie, Minnesota where he farmed with his father and younger brother Charles. In 1945, Merton enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Philippines, Okinawa and Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Sergeant. After he returned home, Bud farmed until the Fall of 1947 when he went to work as an electrician for a power company. On October 2, 1953, Bud married Janet "Dolly" Baker in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. In 1959, Merton moved his family to Yutan where he worked in construction and helped build the Western Electric facility. Afterward, he went to work for that company. Later, Bud worked for Fruehauf Trailers and retired from there in 1989. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where he served, at various times, as a Trustee, Elder and Sunday School teacher. He was a lifetime member of both the Wahoo VFW Post #4502 and American Legion Post #82 where he served one year as Commander, and as Chaplain for five years. Bud is survived by sons Steven Markle of Omaha and David Markle of Wahoo; daughter Janet (Robert) Altmanshofer of Boiling Springs SC; grandsons Joshua (Allison) Altmanshofer of China, Richard Altmanshofer of New York NY, Alex Altmanshofer of Charlotte NC; and great-granddaughters Evangeline, Serena, Jubilee and Moriah Altmanshofer. He was preceded in death by his wife Dolly and all five of his siblings.
