Mary Elaine (Nygren) Norman, 83, of Urbandale, Iowa, formerly of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026. She was born February 27, 1942, in Wahoo, Nebraska to parents Paul H. and Linnea (Samuelson) Nygren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn “Webbs” Norman; former husband, Bill Dinges; stepson, Charlie Norman; stepdaughters, Patty Norman and Kathy Norman; brother Allen Nygren; and friend Barb Bailor.

She is survived by her son, Aaron (Jill) Dinges of Urbandale, IA; stepson, Dan (Maureen) Norman of Waunakee, WI; extended family member, Cheryl Baldwin; grandchildren, Abraham Dinges, Katy Norman, and Ellie Norman; siblings, Joy Runquist and Leland (Lynn) Nygren; sister-in-law, Bette Nygren; long-time friend, Phyllis Provenzano; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mary lived a life grounded in service, faith, and deep care for others. In all her pursuits, Mary served her community with dedication and pride. Most of her working career was spent at the Rockford Park District and Foundation. Mary was a devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church and Kiwanis in Rockford. In 2019, Mary moved to Iowa to be closer to her son, Aaron, and her cousin, Yvonne Page, cherishing the time spent near family in her later years.

Mary enjoyed playing the piano, singing, dancing, playing cards, gardening, and shopping. Above all, Mary deeply cared for her family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at Alma Lutheran Church in Mead, NE on Saturday, January 31st at 11 AM. The visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 AM prior to the service. The burial will take place after the service at Alma Lutheran Cemetery, Mead, NE.

In addition, a memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford, IL on Saturday, February 14th at 11 am. The visitation will be from 9:30-11 AM prior to the service.
