Mary Ann Izso, age 91 of Ithaca, died Thursday, April 25, 2024 in Omaha. She was born December 25, 1932 in Carteret, New Jersey to Michael and Irene (Gyure) Kovacs. She grew up in Carteret and graduated from Carteret High School. At the age of 16, while listening to an evangelist on the radio, Mary Ann accepted the Lord as her personal Savior. Her artistic creativity included drawing sketches and painting, as well as singing for the Lord at every opportunity. On June 30, 1956 she married Julius Endre Izso at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Cataret, New Jersey. Family and her Savior were Mary Ann’s greatest treasures. Her goal in life was to bring as many people to the Lord as she could and continued this goal even after she moved into The Meadows in Ashland. Mary Ann was a 33-year member of Liberty Baptist Church in Fremont. She was active for many years with the Christian Women’s Group in Wahoo first by baking and singing for them and later provided childcare during their activities. She loved the Lord and being a homemaker. She enjoyed preparing Hungarian food for her family’s enjoyment. Mary Ann gained tremendous enjoyment in the early years from fishing with her best friend, Jeanette Murray, and later on with her son-in-law Danny and grandsons Daniel and Endre. As an active “prayer warrior” Mary Ann prayed continually for family, friends, and acquaintances. She also wrote the Ithaca News column for the Wahoo Newspaper on her manual typewriter for many years. She spent her life serving the Lord and taking care of her family and loved doing it.
Mary Ann is survived by her son Julius H. “Jay” (Linda Craft/Izso) Izso of Raleigh, NC, daughter Mary (Dan) Lucas of Ithaca; grandchildren Kelly Walker of Baltimore MD, Jaycob Izso of Portland OR, Nickole (Eric) Fenske of Colon, Daniel Jr. (Jaimee) Lucas of Wahoo, Endre Lucas of Colon, Sairah (Elijah) Whitecar of Pocatello, ID, Izibell Lucas of Ithaca; great-grandchildren Olivia, Ean, Landon, Micah, and Thane Fenske, Reagan Whitecar; and honorary great-granddaughter Little Olivia.
Visitation will be Friday, 5-8 pm at Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home. Funeral Services are set for 2 pm Saturday at Liberty Baptist Church in Fremont; graveside services will be held at Indian Mound Cemetery in Ithaca on Monday, May 6 at 11 am. Memorials may be directed to the family.
