Marjorie Jean Shane died Saturday, December 24, 2016 in Wahoo. She was born March 4, 1925 in Fairbury, Nebraska, the daughter of Lawrence and Arlie (Howland) Leonard. Jean graduated from Fairbury High School in 1943. On August 14, 1943, she married Charles W. Shane in Washington, Kansas. They were married for 56 years. Jean and Chuck lived on the family dairy farm in Fairbury for ten years prior to moving to Wahoo. Jean was employed at Anderson Hultine Department Store for five years and was a 27 year employee of Western Electric in Omaha. Jean was a member of the First United Methodist Church, The Order of The Eastern Star in which she served as Grand Matron of Nebraska, Quilters Guild, PEO, and was a volunteer at the Wahoo Museum and Wahoo Historical Society. Jean was well known as an accomplished quilter, cross stitch and embroiderer. She won many awards for her mastery with needle and thread, and gave away quilts to many friends and family. Jean is survived by her daughter Marilyn (Don) Jirovsky of Garland, Texas; son Bill (Lana) Shane of Ottawa, Illinois; grandchildren Mike, Steve, Sherry, Ann, Chris, Susan, Kelly and Will; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and sister-in-law Jean Wheatcraft. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, brother Lawrence, and sister Betty Johnson. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the Marine Corps League Detachment.
