Margaret M. Bergman

Margaret Mary (Thoms) Bergman, age 95 of Wahoo, passed away June 25, 2013 in Wahoo. She was born June 8, 1918 to Emil and Anna (Schmidt) Thoms. She grew up on a farm near Memphis, NE and attended country school. On March 5, 1947, she married Otto "Jake"� Bergman at Ithaca, NE. Margaret and Otto lived near Weston until they moved to their farm east of Ceresco where Margaret stayed busy raising her son and daughter, milking cows and raising chickens, and working wherever she could on the farm. Throughout their early years together, Margaret and Otto enjoyed dancing and visiting with friends and family. The couple lived on the farm until 1987 when they retired and moved to Wahoo. Margaret took pleasure in baking, playing cards and dominoes and attending her grandchildren's activities. She was a fixture at Wahoo High School activities and attended games and plays until shortly before her 95th birthday. She was very involved in her family's lives and her new great-grandson brought a sparkle to her eye. Margaret was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ithaca and faithfully served in many capacities including the Ladies Aid, and as a Sunday School teacher. She is survived by her son Ivan Bergman of Wahoo; daughter and son-in-law Diann and Jim Chvatal of Wahoo; granddaughters Alyssa (Dave) Nelson of Colon, Aleigh Chvatal (Jason Vogt) of Omaha; great-grandson Grady Nelson; and sister-in-law Betty Jordan of Wahoo. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband W. Otto Bergman; brothers Albert Thoms, Harry Thoms and Wilmer Thoms; sisters Lena Miller, Marie Miller, Laura Saathoff and Emma Thoms. Serving as Casket Bearers are Steve Berggren, Rob Bonow, Duane Thoms, Ron Thoms, Rick McKinley and Fritz Bergman. Memorials may be given to the family for a later designation.
