Liz Hudkins

Liz Hudkins, age 79 of Waverly, died Thursday, January 24, 2013 in Lincoln. She was born in Cambridge, NE on September 10, 1933. She was the youngest of three girls born to Charles and Rose (Schaffert) Barth. Liz grew up on the family farm south of Cambridge and graduated from high school in 1951. On February 14, 1957, she married Jack Hudkins at Grace Lutheran Church in Lincoln. They became the proud parents of six children. Liz and Jack raised their family in Wahoo before moving to Lincoln in 1986. While in Wahoo, Liz worked at the City Hall and was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary and Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Liz possessed a strong religious faith and cherished her family. She looked forward to family vacations and taught her children, by example, to not judge other people and to treat others fairly. After moving to Lincoln, she became a Licensed Realtor and worked at Woods Brothers Realty for more than 20 years. Liz loved the excitement of the casino environment and treasured her trips to "the boats". The dog races provided the backdrop for Liz and Jack's 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration on Valentine's Day, 2007. She was a talented artist who painted in watercolors. She also played bridge and golf, and was a former member of Hilltop Country Club. Her musical tastes included Perry Como and Frank Sinatra. Liz was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Geraldine Dorwart and Elaine O'Hare; brother-in-law Yule Dorwart; and sister-in-law Rose Mariane Hudkins. She is survived by her husband Jack of Waverly; children Mike Hudkins of Lincoln, Kirk Hudkins of Omaha, Julie (Allan) Funk of Lincoln, Jeff Hudkins of Omaha, Jill (Scott) Boehler of Waverly, and Bryan (Renee) Hudkins of Ceresco; grandchildren Alyssa Hudkins, Brendan, Carson and Dylan Hudkins, Danny and Kimmy Funk, Brianna and Jordyn Boehler, and Wade Hudkins; step-grandchildren Jenny and Julie Funk; daughter-in-law Retha of Lincoln; brothers-in-law Lyle O'Hare and Don Hudkins both of Lincoln; and many nieces and nephews.
