Laura May Miners was born May 10, 1938 in Wahoo to Christopher and Pauline (Sievers) Drews. On February 22, 1959, she married Lyle L. Miners in Omaha and, as a newlywed, followed him around the country as he completed his military service. Laura grew up in Yutan and graduated from Yutan High School where she played on the Volleyball Team. She continued her love for sports throughout her life as a diehard Husker sports fan and a Denver Broncos supporter. She also bowled. Her sporting nature often found her in the casino playing the penny slots. More often than not she beat the house and came home with several hundred dollars to her credit. Laura was a consummate financial manager for her family and would frequently forego spending money on herself so that she could generously provide for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to whom she was unfailingly devoted. Although she was a very good cook, Laura enjoyed her favorite indulgence – a cheeseburger kid's meal from Runza. She clipped the free ice cream coupons from the paper bags, kept them in her purse, and handed them out to children as they dined at Runza. For many years, Laura worked as a Hostess and Dietary Aide at the Skyline Manor in Omaha. Her gentle and engaging manner brightened the meal times of the Skyline residents, and her dedication and organizational skills ensured them a pleasurable dining experience. At home, Laura was famous for her Mael Buttel – a steam pudding that was both a German tradition and a family favorite. The recipe she used was handed down from her grandmother. Since she only made it a couple times each year, her family members made sure they were at her house when the Mael Buttel came out of the pot. The same was true whenever Laura made her German fritters for dessert. Like many people, Laura loved to snack and was especially fond of Pepsi and Cheetos and, once in a while, on an especially hot day, she enjoyed an ice cold Coors Lite. Although she hated snakes, and vigorously eradicated them from her garden, Laura loved roosters. She had a large collection of novelty roosters that she proudly displayed in her home. Because of issues with depth perception, Laura never learned to drive. This, however, did not slow her down at all. As a young woman, she was impervious to the cold. It was not unusual to see Laura without a coat or with her coat unzipped during the winter. She was also known to have shoveled snow while barefoot and wearing a short sleeved shirt. Laura is survived by her husband Lyle Miners of Yutan; children Vickie (Gary) Jackson of Lincoln, Doug (Cindy) Miners of Omaha, Mike (Donna) Miners of Greenwood, Dale (Toni) Miners of Bellevue; sisters-in-law Linda Street and Sandy Drews; niece Lorissa (Keith) Hartman; nephew Keith Street; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother Pauline Ekman; father Chris Drews; step-father Carl Ekman; grandson Randy Pauley; brother Lauren "Butch" Drews; and brother-in-law Danny Street.
