Kirk D. Williams, age 79 of Omaha died Thursday, October 29, 2020 at his home. He was born February 19, 1941 in Utica, NY to David and Derfla (Ireland) Williams. On May 25, 1979 he married Shirley Johnson. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1959 and became a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. He was later stationed at Offutt AFB where he worked in purchasing and contract management. He retired in 1980 after 20 years of military service. Kirk then began a 20-year career with the United States Army Corp of Engineers where he earned the honored title of “Deputy Dog”. He was involved in multiple projects including his oversight of the construction of the Nuclear Power Plant in Sutherland, NE. Kirk was a member of The Tangier Shrine in Omaha, Wahoo Masonic Lodge #59 A.F. & A.M., and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4502 in Wahoo. He spent his spare time as an avid photographer and collector of cameras and created beautiful stained-glass designs. Kirk was a gun enthusiast and, indeed, trained to be a gunsmith. He helped advance the sport of both indoor and outdoor archery at Wurtsmith AFB in Michigan, was a long-time biker, and was active with the Clinton Comets – a semi-pro hockey team. Kirk was a founding member of Celebration Covenant Church in Omaha and served on several committees to shepherd the church and its facilities, helping it to grow into its current level. Kirk is survived by his wife Shirley Williams of Omaha; sons Robert E. (Terry) Williams of Clinton, NY, David T. Williams of Clinton, NY, Daniel O. (Gina) Williams of New Hartford, NY; step-sons Scott (Jackie) Nielson of Wahoo, NE, Mark (Michelle) Nielson of Grimes, IA; siblings Al Williams of Houston, TX, Cindy Williams (Peter Jamison) of Cheshire, CT; first wife Donna Yando; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be at 11:00 am Monday at Celebration Covenant Church in Omaha. A Masonic Funeral Rite and Military Funeral Honors will also be conducted. Private Interment at Omaha National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church. Pro 3:5-6.
