Kenton Lee Points was born on June 28, 1944, to Phillip & Peggy (Meek) Points in Honey Creek, Iowa, and went to rest in the arms of his loving Savior Jesus Christ on October 29, 2023. In February, 1980 – after a very brief courtship – he married the love of his life, Cheryl Peavy, bringing with him to the marriage the blessing of a son, Phillip. During their 43+ years of marriage, they were further blessed with daughters Kendra, Anabel and Amanda, and son Kenton. He was very proud of all of his children, and eagerly watched as they conquered new challenges and milestones, celebrating with them along the way. The Bible says, “Children are a gift from God; they are his reward,” and Kent believed he was richly rewarded.
Those who were blessed to know Kent were usually the recipient of a firm handshake, a great story, and a delicious meal. He cherished his family, loved all children, feeding people wonderful meals he concocted, and “the art of the deal.” His bargaining skills and ingenuity were unparalled, and his chili legendary. Above all, he was that rare man of noble character.
During his lifetime, he was a jack-of-all-trades and master of many. At the age of 18, he disassembled a roller coaster by hand, hanging from his knees upside down. He owned and operated numerous businesses – including motels, a salvage yard, a boarding house, TV and auto body shops and an antique store. But most importantly, he had a deep love for Jesus. At an early age he was drawn to seek God, though that journey was not always easy. In the end, he remained faithful, and we can hear God say to him: “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful and trustworthy over a little, I will put you in charge of many things; share in the joy of your master.”
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; children Phillip (Sharon) Points, II, of Colorado; Kendra (Matt) Nielsen of Nebraska; Anabel (Josh) Johnson of Tennessee; Amanda (Mike) Arndt of Nebraska; and Kenton (Jordyn) Points, of Nebraska; sisters Diana Sherman, Iowa, and Kathy (James) Ringler, Colorado; and brother Mike (Edie) Points, New Mexico; grandchildren Abby and Lance Schuhrke, Colorado; Matthew Nielsen, Nebraska; Souriya, Lance, Luke, Alyse and Ivy Johnson, Tennessee and Colorado; Noah and Colby Arndt, Nebraska; and Raina and Nova Points, Nebraska; several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, his dog Bowzer. Preceding him in death were his parents.
