John F. Shanahan, 90, of Wahoo, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 in Wahoo, NE. He was born October7, 1924 in rural Colon, NE to Thomas and Anna (Sevryn) Shanahan. John graduated from Malmo Public School in 1943. John was united in marriage to Rosemary Peters on May 26, 1948 at the First United Methodist Church in Wahoo. They just celebrated 67 years of marriage. After a short time spent farming, John drove a truck for Wahoo Transfer, owned by his brother Tom. In 1955, John began work at Breunig Rendering Plant and retired in 1986. Sports were a big part of John's life whether watching or participating. He played baseball in High School and, after graduation, played on town and county teams. He was a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox. John enjoyed following his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their interests and activities. John enjoyed fishing and gardening with his special friend Joe Bartek. He also enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends and family. He is survived by wife Rosemary; children Margaret (Bob) Cherovsky, Pat Hutchinson (Leo McConnell), Sue Bigelow, Tim (Barb) Shanahan, Allan Shanahan (Chris Benson); grandchildren Kurt Cherovsky, Heidi Nadrchal, Kellye Bigelow, Benjamin, Mallory and Will Shanahan; great-grandchildren Cameron, Collin and Chylei Nadrchal; sister-in-law Marjorie Ecklund; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Margarite Schultz, Marion Stanton; brothers Tom, Bob, Everette, and Richard Shanahan; son-in-law Brandon Bigelow. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or Wahoo Baseball Association.
