On February 24, 2024, Janet Ayers Lindley, a beloved mother whom her children will forever treasure in their hearts, passed away in Omaha, NE. She was 91 years old and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Janet was born on July 4th, 1932, along with her identical twin sister June, in Evanston, IL, to George and June Ayers. She moved shortly after to Wahoo, NE where she lived until 2015. Janet attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and graduated with her nursing degree in 1954. The following year, she graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in Omaha, with a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
In high school Janet met John William Lindley and the two were married on June 26th, 1955, in Wahoo and were blessed with 52 years of marriage. The couple had 5 children and Janet treasured them and her 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren every day of her life.
Janet worked in several nursing capacities culminating with duties as the Director of Nurses at the Saunders County Care Center, Wahoo NE. In addition, Janet was quite active in the Wahoo community. She was a member of session and clerk of session (multiple terms) at First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo where she also played piano and organ for services. Also, she was a 4th generation member (and past president) of the philanthropic organization P.E.O. (Chapter I) for many decades.
She is survived by her 5 children Patricia June Ahlers (Steve), John Robert Lindley, Michael Ayers Lindley (Janet), William Clayton Lindley (Amy), and Ann Elizabeth McGill (Jeff); 12 grandchildren Timothy John Ahlers, Ryan Steven Ahlers (Lynn), Laura Janet Peitz, Emilee Ann Lindley (fiancé Landon), Michaela June Witteman (Phil), Collin Michael Lindley (fiancé Jocelyn), Derek Louis Messersmith, Clayton William Lindley, and Brock William Lindley, Kylie June Collins (Aaron), Matthew William McGill, Jonathan Michael McGill (Sofie); and 13 great-grandchildren Graham Steven Ahlers, Olivia Marie Ahlers, Annalise June Ahlers, August Janet Ahlers, Wynnifred Elizabeth Ahlers, Gavin William Peitz, Nolan Louis Peitz, Easton August Peitz, Roam Carter Temke, Lennox John Temke, Devin Michael Lindley, Chandler June Collins, and Titus Lee Collins, and sister-in-law Mary Lindley.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents George and June Ayers; husband of 52 years John William Lindley; beloved twin sister June Ayers Brunmeier (Dr. Richard); brother-in-law Jack (Butch) Lindley; and family friend Merlin Johnson.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Saturday, March 2 at First Presbyterian Church with visitation beginning at 9:00 am. Interment will be at Sunrise Cemetery in Wahoo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Wahoo and/or PEO Chapter I. The family would also like to thank Tabitha Hospice of Omaha and the staff at Lakeside Village in Omaha where Janet was a resident for her last 9 years.
