Hazel J Trutna

Trutna, Hazel J., age 89 of Wahoo. Died Monday, December 14, 2015 in Wahoo. Born March 7, 1926 at Murdock, NE to William and Minnie (Rieke) Rueter. After graduating from high school, Hazel attended business school, then worked for four years at Northwestern Mutual Life, Inc. She was offered a job at the State House as a court reporter but, when Henry "Hank" Trutna came home from the servie, she turned down the job and they were married December 4, 1946 at Callahan Church in Murdock, Nebraska. Hank's brother was already married to Hazel's sister, Pearl. Hazel and Hank settled in Wahoo where Hazel worked for two attorneys for two years, but then stayed at home to raise their sons, Jack and Steve. When the boys were old enough, Hazel began clerking at the Rexall Drug Store and stayed in that job for 22 years. She spent the next 11 years corking at Charlotte's Clothing. During their life together, Hazel and Hank built a total of seven houses, finishing each off from the framing stage while living in the basement. Hazel stayed active in the lives of her sons, serving as a Cub Scout leader, and a regular attender of their athletic events. She also taught Sunday School at the First Congregational Church. Hazel's and Hank's favorite past time was fishing in Minnesota, an activity they enjoyed throughout their life and especially after retirement. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband Hank Trutna, brothers Alvin Rueter, Clarence Rueter and Paul Rueter, sister Pearl Trutna, and granddaughter Leah Trutna. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Jack and Jeanine Trutna of Lincoln, Steve and Phyllis Trutna of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren Derek (Stephanie) Trutna of Lincoln, Scott (Jennifer) Trutna of Colorado Springs, CO, Kara (Ryan) McLaughlin of New York, NY, Erin (John) Murman of Waverly; great-grandchildren Quinn Trutna, Paige Trutna, Claire Murman, Matthew McLaughlin, Oliver Trutna and Trinity Trutna.
