Hazel L. Hanke was born July 19, 1919 in Colon, Nebraska, the daughter of Fred and Inez (Pearson) Milton. She married the love of her life, Harold Hanke, on October 5, 1938 in Malmo, Nebraska. Together, they farmed near Swedeburg and Malmo. Hazel was an industrious and hard worker throughout her entire life. When she was not engaged in work at Platte Valley Equipment, the Wahoo Bakery, and the Dairy Queen, Hazel kept herself busy selling Avon products. She was a warm and gracious hostess who enjoyed filling her home with family and friends. Hazel was a longtime, active member of the Swedeburg Covenant Church. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Keith and Marilyn Hanke of Prague; her daughters Geraldine Barry of Wahoo and Doris Meece of Wahoo; her daughter-in-law LaVerne Hanke of Omaha; her sister Gladys Dauel of Wahoo; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Harold, son Clarence, grandson Roger Hanke, great-grandson James Meece, great-granddaughter Brenda Strizek, sisters Jean Hasselquist and Arlene Miller. Her funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Russell Sizemore. Serving as Casket Bearers will be Mike Claycamp, Dale Meece, Mark Barry, Mike Barry, Mark Strizek and Ron Hanke. Memorials are suggested to the Swedeburg Covenant Church.
