Harold E. Hedlund DVM died Thursday, April 4, 2013 at home in Wahoo. He was born March 21, 1923 at Osceola, Nebraska to Edwin and Minnie (Sall) Hedlund. Harold graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1941 and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine Degree in 1945 from Iowa State University. Dr. Hedlund began his veterinary practice in Wahoo in September of 1945. On September 12, 1948, he married Betty Trutna at the Czech Presbyterian Church in rural Wahoo. Harold was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Wahoo Lodge #59 AF & AM where he was the Jordan Medal Holder, Sesostris Shrine in Lincoln, and the Wahoo Lions Club. Dr. Hedlund was a Past-President of the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association, and had served on the Wahoo School Board. Following his retirement in 1983, he supervised the Aksarben Race Track Test Barn. He enjoyed playing Bridge, and hunting quail and pheasant. He is survived by his wife Betty of Wahoo; children Barbara Hedlund of David City, Janet (Dell) Shepherd of North Platte, Cheryl Hedlund (John Mazoch) of Ames, IA and Bueche, LA, Edwin (Linda) Hedlund of Seattle, WA; grandsons Kyle (Kallie) Shepherd of North Platte, Timothy (Amanda) Shepherd of Ames, IA, Mathew (Caroline) Mazoch of Little Rock, AR, Jakob Hedlund of Seattle, WA and Lukas Hedlund of Seattle, WA; great-grandchildren Hunter and Isabel Shepherd and Wyatt Shepherd. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, and sister De Ette Holland. Casket Bearers will be Kyle Shepherd, Timothy Shepherd, Mathew Mazoch, Jakob Hedlund, Lukas Hedlund and Scott Watts. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church. No Visitation.
