Harold L. Bartek, age 78 of Wahoo, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 in Wahoo. He was born May 3, 1934 in Beatrice, NE to Julius George and Judith Victoria (Moline) Bartek. Harold graduated from Weston High School in 1954 where he was #14 on the basketball team, and was also a high jumper for the track team. His love of sports continued throughout his life. He was a huge sports fan and closely followed all the local high school and college sporting events. Harold also loved watching Husker Basketball and Detroit professional sports. Following high school, Harold attended the Omaha Barber College. During his training, he provided free haircuts to homeless people in Omaha. Harold served in the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska. After his military discharge, he worked as a barber in downtown Wahoo for 42 years. During his career, he saw men's hairstyles change from the burr to the flat top, Elvis and Beetles styles, as well as the spiked hairstyle. Harold was well known for cutting the perfect flat-top. Harold was preceded in death by his parents Julius and Judith (Moline) Bartek. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Donald and Barbara Bartek of Wahoo; nieces and nephews Steven Bartek of Lincoln, Douglas and Lori Bartek of Hooper and their daughter Molly Bartek of Valparaiso, Amy and Jim Masiongale and their daughter, Hannah, of Augusta, GA, Joe and Rachel Bartek and their daughters Chloe, Olivia, Kacy, and Allyson of Omaha. Military Funeral Honors conducted by Wahoo American Legion Post #82 and Wahoo VFW Post #4502. Casket Bearers will be Jim Masiongale, Larry Johnson Steve Bartek, Doug Bartek, Joe Bartek and Donald Bartek. Memorials are directed to the family for a later designation.
