Glenn L. Cass, age 87 of Fremont, died Sunday May 28, 2017 in Fremont. He was born May 23, 1930 at Burwell, NE to Clarence and Lena (Smith) Cass. Glenn's grandfather was a Sandhills Homesteader. Glenn grew up in Burwell and graduated from Burwell High School where he was a standout in all sports. Following high school, Glenn took a job as a meat cutter and quickly rose to the rank of meat manager at Safeway and Council Oak Foods. He then became a Meat Inspector for the State of Nebraska and, after a few years, became a Federal Meat Inspector. He married Marjorie Kremer in Burwell on November 4, 1950. They became parents to three sons and two daughters. Because of Glenn's work, the family moved frequently and, as a result, only the youngest child, Tim, attended the same school system all thirteen years. The family ultimately settled in Cozad where Glenn retired in 1993. He attended Great Plains Community College for a time with the intention of becoming a laboratory technician but the allure a being close to family prompted Glenn and Marjorie to move to Fremont in October of 1994. Not one to sit idle, Glenn found fulfillment as a Courier at Fremont National Bank. He retired from that position at the age of 80. Glenn was a dedicated family man and maintained strong Christian values throughout his life as he served his various churches as Elder and Deacon. Water sports were always a family activity and included jet skiing and boating. Glenn loved being around the water. Glenn was conservative in all aspects of his life whether it be with politics, money, or social issues. He was a humble, mild-mannered man who set a fine example for his family and others around him by always exhibiting self-control. Glenn enjoyed playing cards, pool, and bowling. He was a car fan and frequented Fremont car shows. Glenn is survived by his wife Marjorie of Fremont; children Theresa (Darwin) Osentowski of Elkhorn, Rick (Donna) Cass of Fremont, Monica (Lee) Becker of Wahoo, Tim (Lisa) Cass of Hastings; sister Beth (Phillip) Fischer of Ord; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Lena Cass; son Ronald Cass; siblings Melvin Cass, Ruth Cyriacks; and grandson Gabe Cass. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 7 at First Christian Church in Burwell. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Interment will be at Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church.
