Gerald L. Carlson, age 65 of Ithaca, Nebraska died Wednesday, January 19, 2022 in Lincoln. He was born May 23, 1956 in Roswell, New Mexico, to Gerald and Mary Carlson. During his service in the Marine Corps, Jerry was a military police officer. He worked for the Nebraska State Patrol as a Trooper, SWAT member and a Field Training Officer. Jerry went on to work as a Deputy for Saunders County and was Chief of Police in Mead. Among his many awards and honors he was named 1985 Officer of the year by the Footprinters Association, 1987 Lifesaving Award was presented by Eastern Ambulance, in 1989 the Fraternal Order of Eagles named him officer of the year. Along with numerous awards for DUI arrests. Jerry was a loyal Chicago Bears fan as well as the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and school activities. Jerry was a devoted husband of 45 years, and a father of three as well as a grandfather of five. He is survived by wife Pat of Ithaca, children Jenni (Mike) Gayler of Scribner, son Tyler (Sarah of Mead, daughter Kaylee of Ithaca, mother-in-law Karen Greenwald of Lincoln, sisters Cheri (Tracy) Truax of Raymond, Jeannette Carlson of David City, Cathie Smetter of Lincoln, five grandchildren, brother-in-law and sister-in-law and multiple nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held at 10 am Monday, January 24 at Mead Covenant Church (Encounter Life Ministries). Visitation will be Sunday January 23 from 2-4 pm at Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home. Internment to follow immediately at Indian Mound Cemetery in Ithaca. Memorials to family.
