Fern Marie Miller

Fern Marie Miller, age 92 of Wahoo, died Monday, January 28, 2013 in Wahoo. She was born January 14, 1921 on a farm near Memphis, NE to John and Winnifred (Frederick) Jacobs. Fern was baptized in March 1921 at Ithaca, Nebraska. She was a lifelong resident of Saunders County and lived in her home in Wahoo fro 60 years. Fern attended District 47 and District 6 grade schools and Ashland High School. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1937. On May 6, 1941, Fern was united in marriage to Dale A. Miller in Wahoo. They lived the first five years in various states while Dale served in the military during World War II. The rest of Fern's life was spent living in Wahoo. In 1941, she became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo. Fern was an active member of the Chancel Choir for 56 years, was a member of the Presbyterian Guild and U.P.W. She served as a Deacon and was an Ordained Elder, and was a Charter Member of the Sub-Mariners "� a couple's organization at the church. Fern was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was employed as a Commodity Loan Clerk for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Office of Saunders County for 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Dale, her parents, brother Harvey, sisters Ruby Nichols and Ruth Pershing and sister Emma Jacobs. Fern is survived by her nephews Duane (Sandra) Jacobs of Ashland, Larry Pershing of Lincoln, Jon Pershing of Oro Valley, AZ, Joe (Kathy) Pershing of Tucson, AZ, Vern (Sue) Pershing of Fond Du Lac, WI; niece Nancy Holman of Lincoln. Casket Bearers will be Chris Jacobs, Tim Shanahan, Dan Lanik, Bill Lindley, Mike Lindley, and Ivan Bergman. Honorary Casket Bearers are Fern's relatives and many friends. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
