Evelyn V. Mathis

Evelyn V. Mathis, age 80 of Valley, died Monday, July 15, 2019 in Valley. She was born at Stanton, Nebraska on April 23, 1939 to Henry and Louise (Fuchs) Hansen. On September 4, 1960, Evelyn married James B. Mathis in Wahoo. James died in 1985 at the age of 48. Evelyn inherited from her mother a large doll collection of which she was quite proud. When not collecting dolls, Evelyn amassed an amazing assortment of stuffed animals of all shapes and sizes. She was a huge fan of everything Husker and outfitted her bathroom with every bit of Husker paraphernalia she could find. Evelyn loved red, white and blue and proudly displayed the trappings of her patriotic spirit, not only in her home, but in the attire she often wore. She enjoyed adding glitz and glimmer to her life by wearing stylish shoes, lots of rings and gold colored jewelry; and a bit of glitter here and there added just the right touch to permit her creative side to show. Presley, Evelyn's great-granddaughter brought her a special form of happiness and delight. Evelyn filled much of her time with sewing, and with trips to her "home away from home" – the Fremont Walmart. She is survived by her children Jeffrey Mathis of Fremont, Peggy (Rodney) Trost of Yutan, Susan Mathis of Fremont; brother David (Delores) Hansen of Stanton; sister Alice Herbolsheimer of Stanton; granddaughter Paige Baughman of Omaha and great-granddaughter Presley Mason. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband; and sister Betty Beckmann.
