Eula Jane "Janie" Peterson

Eula Jane "Janie" Peterson was born March 17, 1927 in Omaha, Nebraska to Ira O. and Ella (Laudenschlaeger) Cheney of Mead, Nebraska. She graduated from Mead High School in 1944 and CE School of Commerce in Omaha in 1945. Janie was a secretary at Mutual of Omaha and several other businesses before her marriage to Alfred E. Peterson on August 14, 1948 in Mead. She was an active member of Edensburg Lutheran Church and the L.C.W. Eula Jane also held membership in the Happy Matrons Club of Weston and The Goldenrod Club of Mead. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for a time. Janie served on The Mariposa Township Board for many years. She volunteered at the Saunders County Museum, handled many Farm Bureau activities with her husband, and she loved to visit with people. While living in Lincoln for 8 ½ years, Eula Jane was active with the Prime Time group from Indian Hills Church and traveled with the group throughout the United States. She was also privileged to be able to travel to Austria, Switzerland, Germany and the Czech Republic. Her skills at cooking, baking, sewing, painting and crocheting served her well during the many years she served as a 4-H Leader. Janie was always beside her husband, Alfred, who suffered with MS – she was his "right-hand man" which helped him to continue farming. Eula Jane's favorite bible verses were Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things though Christ who gives me strength - and the 23rd Psalm. When she said "good bye" to her daughters on the phone, her parting words were always "let the love of Jesus Christ shine…" Eula Jane is survived by her daughters Shari "Sharon" Reeson (Ken Masek) of Wahoo and Shirley Bowling (Cully Rutherford) of Arvada, Colorado; grandchildren Tonja (Matt) Woody of Corona, California, Brent (Kayleen) Bowling of Denver, Colorado, and Sean (Mattie) Bowling of Arvada, Colorado; great-grandchildren Ethan Smith, Andrew Smith, Emilee Bowling, and Hunter Bowling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Peterson, her parents, and her infant granddaughter Gina Bowling.
