Eldon Barry passed away September 27, 2023 at the Saunders County Care Center. A life-long farmer, he was born in Fremont, NE April 30,1951 to Dorothy and Medford Barry. He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy, father Medford, and brother-in-law Martin LaForte. He is survived by his sister Phyllis LaForte of Canton, MI, brother Dan (Susan) Barry of Racine, WI, brother Daryl Barry of Wahoo, NE, nephews Russell (Lindsey) LaForte of Okemos, MI and Chris LaForte of West Palm Beach, FL, nieces Tatiana Barry and Victoria Barry both of Chicago, IL, grand-nephew and niece Henry and Scarlett LaForte.
Eldon grew up on the family farm outside Colon, NE raising hogs, cattle, and grain. He attended rural District #75 school, Wahoo Junior and Senior High Schools, and the University of Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture before joining his father to help run the farm.
Many thanks to friends, family, and community members who enriched Eldon’s life. In high school drama he did stage lighting. He joined the Colon Volunteer Fire Department (serving as secretary for several years) and later joined the Malmo Volunteer Fire Department (serving 3 years as president). He was a member of the Saunders County Pork Producers. He enjoyed camping, state fairs, farm shows, and traveling, including a solo trip home from Alaska via the Alcan Highway.
Special thanks to his care givers at the Saunders County Medical Center Long-Term Care, and the Hospice and Home Healthcare of Saunders County staff.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 10th from 5-8pm at Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home. Funeral will be held 10:30am Wednesday, October 11th at First Presbyterian Church, in Wahoo, NE. The family requests memorials go to the Colon or Malmo Volunteer Fire Departments or the Wahoo First Presbyterian Church.
