Earl H. Veskerna, age 89 of Mead, died Tuesday, October 24, 2017 in Wahoo. He was born July 17, 1928 at home in Millard, Nebraska to William and Catherine (Glissmann) Veskerna. Earl attended school in Millard and played piano and trumpet in the 4-H band. He graduated from Millard High School and, later, from Nebraska Wesleyan University. Earl was drafted into the army and served his country for two years. He was stationed for a time in Philadelphia doing oil testing. Earl went on to teach mathematics and science in Michigan and Rapid City, South Dakota, and tutored the children of a family in Montana. Earl spent his summers working for many years at Yellowstone National Park. After his retirement, he moved back to the farm at Mead and enjoyed gardening, raising popcorn, making bird houses and displaying wooden characters at the ranch. He is survived by his sisters Jeanette Knowles of Wahoo and Doris Veskerna of Mead; cousins and friends. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Willard Veskerna.
