Dorothy "Dode" Miller was born in Wahoo, Nebraska on May 31, 1921 to Malcolm and Elenora (Anderson) Anderson. Dorothy graduated from Wahoo High School in 1939. She attended Luther College and graduated from the Immanual Hospital Nursing School in 1943. Dorothy was united in marriage to Clair "Muzzy" Miller in Wahoo on April 7, 1944. She began her nursing career working in hospitals in Santa Maria, California and Glendale, California before moving to Wahoo where she worked at the Saunders County Hospital. Dode continued her nursing career at the Wahoo Clinic for 24 years before retiring in 1986. Dode and Muzzy were also co-owners of the Wigwam Café before owning Miller's Bootery in Wahoo. Dode was a long-time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she served as the WELCA President and also served on many church committees. Dode was a tireless volunteer in the Wahoo community. She served on the American Cancer Society where she was the Volunteer of the Year. She also served on the Saunders County Senior Center Board, the Red Cross, Head Start, Lincoln Area Agency on Aging, and the Hospital Auxiliary. Dode was also an avid sports fan. She loved attending her children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's events. She continued her support of all Wahoo sports teams with her many dear friends as a member of the "Grey Hairs". She and Muzzy were also loyal Husker fans. Dode also loved playing cards with her many friends in Wahoo and Omaha. Dode's greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her three children Bonnie Burkey, Pam (Brad) Nygren, and Mike (Ellen) Miller; nine grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and 4 step-great-grandchildren. Dode was preceded in death by her parents; husband Muzzy Miller; sister Wilma Nycum; brother Wilmer "Bud" Anderson; sons-in-law Larry Grasmick and Fred Burkey; and grandson Kevin Grasmick. The funeral will be officiated by the Revs. Gail Madson and Kent Morse. Memorials are suggested to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the Wahoo Senior Center. Casket Bearers will be Dode's 9 grandchildren: Scott Grasmick, Rick Grasmick, Chad Grasmick, Peter Miller, Bridget Miller, Ann Miller, Shawn Liliedahl, Rob Liliedahl, and Staci Matiyow.
