Dorothy Helen Johnson

Dorothy H (Straube) Johnson was born May 13, 1933 to Godfrey and Agnes (Rulla) Straube in Sterling, NE. She was the youngest of 5 children.

She was baptized on June 18, 1933 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sterling and confirmed March 30, 1946 at Hope Lutheran Church on Burr, NE. Dorothy was a faithful member of St. John’s until she was married.

Dorothy attended grade school in a rural school for 8 years and graduated from Burr High School in 1950. That summer after graduation she attended Peru State for 12 weeks and in the fall of that same year she started to teach in a rural school. She then taught in a rural school another 4 years. After that she attended one year of college at Dana College in Blair. The following two years she taught first grade in Fremont, NE.

On August 14, 1959 she was married to Dale Johnson of Mead, NE. That following fall she taught first grade in Mead Public Schools. Dorothy joined Alma Lutheran Church in Mead in September of 1959 and was active there until she was no longer able. She served as a Sunday School teacher and Sunday School superintendent for many years. She also sang in the choir and was active in LCW, VBS, Chat and Sew. She also belonged to an Extension Club in the Mead area.

Outdoors was where Dorothy liked to spend a lot of time. She loved her flowers, garden, and yard work. She loved to cook and sew. Her rolls were a family favorite. She also made many outfits for grandchildren along with Christmas and Halloween outfits. After retirement she and Dale had the privilege of touring many places. The only corner of the United States they didn’t have the chance to visit was the northeast.

She is survived by her three children: Mary Miller, Marc (Angie) Johnson, and Paul (Lori) Johnson; six grandchildren: Ashlee (Paul) Swanson, Erica (Robbie) Reinhard, Michaela Miller and special friend Justice Walton, Lowell Johnson and special friend Kailey Heuertz, Margaret (Nash) Beaudin, June Johnson and fiancé Tyson Landenberger; four great grandchildren and one due in October: Caleb, Caitlynn, and Caiden Swanson, and August Beaudin; brother-in-law Eddie Harms and sister-in-law Beverly Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dale, parents Godfrey and Agnes Straube, brother and sister-in-law: Richard and Nora Straube, sisters and brothers-in-law: Ruth and Robert Salomons, Martha and Don Brinkman, sister: Millie Harms, Parents-in-law Leroy and Ruth Johnson, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Elaine Henrichson, Lila and Ed Morris, and Eldon Johnson, and son-in-law Robert Miller Jr.

Dorothy dearly loved flowers but, most of all her family, they’re very special to her. Her earnest prayer is for a happy reunion in heaven with all her family.

Visitation will be 5-7 pm Wednesday, August 13 at Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 11 am Thursday, August 14 at Alma Lutheran Church in Mead. Interment will be at Alma Lutheran Cemetery.
