Donald L. Veskrna lived his life with a clear purpose: to live as God would have him live. In that, he was faithful and steady, and in the eyes of those who knew him, he succeeded.

He was born April 26, 1936, to Frank and Rose (Vrana) Veskrna in Wahoo, Nebraska. He attended District 85 and graduated from Malmo High School in 1953. Following graduation, he began farming alongside his father and brother, continuing a life rooted in hard work, land, and family.

On October 30, 1955, Don was united in marriage to Norma Rood at First United Methodist Church in Wahoo. Together, they built a life centered on family and faith, and were blessed with three sons: Larry, Michael, and Daniel.

Don’s life was defined by both his work and his willingness to serve. While maintaining his farming operation, he worked more than 20 years with the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office in Wahoo. He was also a seed dealer for over 60 years with Pfister Associated Growers, Inc. (PAG), a role he carried with consistency and pride.

His commitment to community was steady and longstanding. Don was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Wahoo, where he served as trustee chair, finance chair, Sunday school superintendent, and head usher, along with other roles over the years. He was also a member and Past Master of the Wahoo Masonic Lodge and was appointed Apprentice Custodian of the Grand Lodge of Nebraska – a position which honored his dedication to mentoring generations of Masons. In addition, he served nine years on the Farmers Union Co-op Board.

Don served his country in the Nebraska National Guard from 1954 to 1962 and was called to active duty in 1961 and 1962, serving at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Beyond his formal roles, Don was known for his quiet generosity. When his own work was finished, he helped neighbors with theirs. He often shared what he had—especially sweet corn—and found satisfaction not in recognition, but in being useful to others.

Don had a natural curiosity and depth of knowledge. He followed college sports and professional baseball closely, with a remarkable command of statistics. He compiled a detailed seven-generation family genealogy and developed a deep understanding of corn seed genetics, often engaging in thoughtful discussions with fellow farmers and seed professionals.

These qualities were most evident in the way he lived within his family. He took great pride in watching his sons and grandchildren participate in sports and found deep contentment in time spent together—especially around the table, where conversation and laughter reflected the importance of family in his life and the pride he held in his sons’ accomplishments.

Don is survived by his three sons Larry (Claudia) Veskrna of Wahoo, Michael (Natausha) Veskrna of Wahoo, and Daniel (Mary Jo) Veskrna of Blair; grandchildren Sydney (Doug) Flegle and Trevor (Jordyn) Veskrna; step-grandchildren Chris, Ryan, and Aaron Beasley, Dylan Caples, Trey and Nevaeh Jindra; great-grandchildren Olivia, Henry, and Evelyn Flegle; along with cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma; his parents, Frank and Rose; his brother, Kenneth; sisters Arlene Toombs and Rosann Belik; brothers-in-law Larry Toombs and Donald Rood; and sisters-in-law Marjoree Miller and Deanna Laughlin.

Visitation will be Monday, April 6, 2026 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home.
