Dennis L. Novak

Dennis L. Novak, age 91 of Wahoo, died Wednesday, January 29, 2020 in Wahoo. He was born November 28, 1928 on a farm near Malmo, NE to Adolph and Helen (Placek) Novak. Dennis attended District 92 school through the 8th grade, then transferred to Morse Bluff for two years, and graduated from Prague High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force. After four years of military service, Dennis returned to Saunders County where he farmed north of Prague. He later spent more than 20 years working for Pacesetter Homes where he assembled block foundation walls for new home construction. Dennis is best known for his talents as a self-taught drummer. He had his own polka ensemble for a time but could be heard playing in various bands throughout the region for many years. Dennis often played in trios consisting of drums, a bass, and an accordian. Dennis is a lifelong bachelor who was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Helen Novak. He is survived by his brother Francis "Shorty" Novak of Wahoo; sisters and brothers-in-law Leona and Lyle Torrens of Wahoo and Darlene and Dean McVicker of Bellevue; nieces and nephews Linda Akerson, Greg McVicker, Gail Wisnieski, Leann Thompson, Dan McVicker, Letti Torrens, Dave McVicker, Launa Cook, Kelly McVicker; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
