Dave Dwayne Westberry

Dave Dwayne Westberry July 17, 1963 – February 13, 2017 Passed away in his home in Wahoo, NE. He is survived by parents Floy and Rusty Westermeier of Glenwood, IA; brother Don (Robin) Westberry and Ashley of Jacksonville, FL; sister Dana (Mary Elizabeth) McCurdy Medford of Clearwater, FL; sister LisaKay Westberry Severs of Tucson, Arizona; Dallan Westberry (father) of Jacksonville, FL; several nephews and nieces, and many friends. Dave was born in Fort Hood, Texas and early on the doctors said he had a slim chance of living. But he fooled everyone. He walked, talked, and enjoyed life as much as he could. Dave went through about 6th grade level, participated in 6 Kilometer walks in Volksmarches, earned Second Class in Boy Scouts, won many Special Olympics medals, and enjoyed helping his parents work in the yard. Eventually, though, he needed a controlled environment and moved to Martin Luther Home in Beatrice, NE at age 16. There he began learning to play the piano, was a member of the hand chime bell choir, read the bible aloud during worship service, and was in charge of raising/lowering the flag daily. Dave moved to Wahoo in December, 2001. Here he became the "weatherman" for Region V Wahoo and participated in many activities. His favorite activities were to visit his parents in Glenwood, IA and to travel on vacation. He made several trips to various places but preferred vacationing in Florida. Dave loved going to church and singing. He will always be known for having astounded doctors, having defied all odds, and for leaving joy in the hearts of all who knew him. Officiating Clergy: Pastor Darren Martin Honorary Pallbearers will be Darren Agee, Leonard Glenn, Jim Boche, Tommy Gerrish, Timothy Martin, and Tim Welling. Donations to Saunders County Hospice and Home Health are preferred in lieu of flowers. Saunders County Hospice and Home Health 141 E. 5th Street Wahoo, NE 68066
