Dale L Johnson

Dale L Johnson entered his heavenly home on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 in Wahoo, NE at the age of 91. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Dale was born December 27, 1932 to LeRoy and Ruth (Hanson) Johnson on a farm near Mead, Nebraska. He lived on that farm for 9 years until the U.S. Ordinance Plant was built on that site. He and his family then moved two miles west to a farm.

Dale graduated from Mead Consolidated Schools in 1950. There he enjoyed taking part in sports, especially basketball. He continued his love for sports by attending the many that his children and grandchildren participated in.

He was drafted into the U.S. army in March 1953 during the Korean War and spent 16 months overseas. He was honorably discharged in March 1955 and he returned home to the family farm. After returning home he had a number of jobs and then returned to farming. He retired in 1994 but never hung up his hat. He was often found out at the farm helping as needed throughout the year.

On August 14, 1959 he was married to Dorothy Straube at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sterling, Nebraska. To this union three children were born: Mary Miller (Rob) of Wahoo, NE, Marc (Angie) Johnson of Wahoo, NE, Paul (Lori) Johnson of Hickman, NE.

Dale was a lifetime member of Alma Lutheran Church in Mead. He was baptized and confirmed there. He served many years there as a church council member. He also served on the Mead Farmers Union CoOp and was a member of American Legion Post 82.

After retirement Dale and Dorothy had the privilege of touring many places in the United States. The only corner of the United States they didn’t get to see was the North East.

Besides his wife and children he is also survived by his grandchildren: Ashlee (Paul) Swanson, Erica (Rob) Reinhard, Michaela Miller, Lowell Johnson, Margaret Johnson, and June Johnson; 4 great grandchildren: Caleb, Caitlynn, and Caiden Swanson and August Beaudin; sister-in-law Beverly Johnson; and brothers-in-law Eddie Morris and Eddie Harms; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members and friends.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Elaine Henrichson and Lila Morris, brother Eldon Johnson, parents-in law Godfrey and Agnes (Rulla) Straube, brothers-in-law Richard Straube, Don Brinkman, Robert Salomons, sisters-in-law Nora Straube, Ruth Salomons, Martha Brinkman, and Millie Harms.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday at Alma Lutheran Church in Mead. Visitation is scheduled for 5-7 pm Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Alma Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alma Lutheran Church or Hospice and Home Health of Saunders County.
