Dale C. Hanson, age 73 of Mead, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016 in Omaha. He was born in Wahoo on November 6, 1942 to Clifton and Ruth (Nygren) Hanson. He graduated from Mead High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Dale served in the Army National Guard from 1965 to 1971 and attained the rank of Sergeant. On September 10, 1967 he married Edna Pieper at the First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo. Dale was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed attending the Saunders County Fair, the Nebraska State Fair and numerous Farm Shows where he could share advice with, and gain insight from, other farmers and see the latest in farm technology and agricultural advancements. Dale was proud to be the fourth generation of his family to farm the Clausen land which was homesteaded by his great-grandfather. He was a member of Future Farmers of America, served on the Farmers Union Co Op Board in Mead from 1969 to 1983, served on the Nebraska Rural Radio Association Board of Directors from 1989 to 2007 and was its Chairman for the last several years of his term. Dale was active in UNL Ag Builders, was a Board Member for the Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries, and served several terms on the Alma Lutheran Church Board. Dale also earned the Nebraska Hall of Agriculture Achievement Award. He was also a member of the Wahoo Lodge #59 A.F. & A.M. as well as the Teammates Board of Directors. The Nebraska Women's Basketball program had a faithful fan in Dale Hanson who was a season ticket holder for many years and supported the program long before it had a winning tradition. Dale is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Jeff and Mary Hanson of Ithaca, Jay and Jenna Hanson of Mead, and John and Madde Hanson of Chesterfield Missouri; grandchildren Emily and Kaitlyn of Mead, Christopher and Matthew of Ithaca, and Logan and Parker of Chesterfield; sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Jerry Volin of Wahoo; special friend Glenda Ferguson of Wahoo; brother-in-law Bruce (Deb) Mehlhop of Ankeny, IA; sisters-in-law Dorothy Hassler of Grand Junction Colorado, Margaret (Darrel) Johns of Syracuse Nebraska, Ruby (Walt) Walker of Hastings and Pat Pieper of Olathe Kansas; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Clifton and Ruth Hanson; wife Edna Hanson; and brother-in-law Edward Pieper. Rev. Andrew Dietzel will be officiating. Serving as Casket Bearers are Aaron Nygren, George Nygren, Ron Volin, Steve Volin, Laura Armstrong and Dale Nygren. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Milford Johnson, Doug Gustafson, Glenn Nelson, Bruce Mehlhop, George Nygren and Leland Nygren. Memorials may be made to the Alma Lutheran Church or the Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries.
