Chuck Lacey, Sr.

Charles L. “Chuck” Lacey, Sr., age 77 of Wahoo, died Friday, September 8, 2023 in Omaha. He was born December 18, 1945 in Tecumseh, Nebraska to Clifford and Helen (Illyes) Lacey. Chuck grew up in Tecumseh. Following graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Korea. Chuck moved to Wahoo in 1970 and began work for the Nebraska State Patrol where he was an officer with the SWAT Team. He married Susan Beaman April 3, 1971. To this marriage, sons Chuck Lacey, Jr. and Justin Lacey were born. On March 3, 1990, he married Beckie Hammes in Las Vegas, Nevada. Chuck enjoyed boating, and cars, and was a member of the Cornhusker Corvette Club for a number of years. While serving on the Nebraska State Patrol, Chuck also worked as a realtor in Omaha and Yutan. Following his retirement from the State Patrol, Chuck worked as a security guard at ASARCO for many years. He was a police officer in Cedar Bluffs and was Saunders County Sheriff from 2002-2006. One of Chuck’s favorite activities was teaching the D.A.R.E. Program in the local schools. His mission and philosophy during his Law Enforcement Career was to be more a mentor and guide rather than a strict authoritarian.


Chuck is survived by his wife Beckie of Wahoo; children Charles Lacey, Jr. of Weston, Justin Lacey of Omaha, Kreig Lacey of Omaha; step-children Robbie Druery of Wahoo, Mandy Spurling of Shickley, Jay Woita of Wahoo; sister Nadine Roberts of Escondido, CA; grandchildren Kailee Woita, Isabelle Woita, Isaac Woita, Jada Spurling and Jackson Spurling. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Cliff Lacey, Jr.


Visitation will be held 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Thursday, September 14 at Pruss-Nabity Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Lacey Family for Later Designations.
