Chersty Person

Chersty Person, age 103, of Wahoo died January 27, 2013 while a resident of South Haven Living Center. She was born December 15, 1909 to Oscar and Amanda (Swanberg) Anderson on the farm her Mother's family homesteaded just south of Wahoo. Chersty attended country school #64 for six months then she moved with her family into Wahoo where she attended West Ward elementary. She graduated from Luther College Academy. She maintained close contact with many of her classmates, with reunions held frequently for years following. On June 22, 1933 she married Wallace Person. He died in 1983 following 52 years of marriage. The couple farmed their entire married life on the farm south of Wahoo. Four children were raised on the farm. She moved back into town in 1986 where she provided transportation for her friends to and from church and the grocery store. Chersty was a lifetime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the South-Side Homemakers Extension Club, was a member of the Ladies Aid, and the Wahoo Garden Club. She was the mother of four children and supported them with their 4-H projects and school. She cherished family gatherings, especially birthdays and the Christmas Holiday for all the Swedish traditions. She loved working with her hands, besides baking breads and pies, she crocheted blankets for each of her children. She enjoyed volunteering at the Senior Center and the Saunders County Museum. Chersty is survived by her son Russell and his wife Sara of Fremont, daughter Dorothy (Fia) and her husband Phil Feese of Kearney, daughter-in-law Betty Person of Knoxville, Iowa. Six grandchildren, Carl Person of San Jose, California; Ray Person of Portland, Oregon; Linda Rosenthal and her husband Robert of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Roger Feese of Lincoln, Nebraska; Karen Brustkern and her husband Brian of Johnston, Iowa; George Feese and his wife Elke of Stamford, CT; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death of a brother Archie, and sons Warren and Norman. Casket Bearers will be Robert Rosenthal, Roger Feese, Brian Brustkern, George Feese, Charles Jonas, Carl Person, Raymon Person and Harvey Johnson. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
