Caroline Esther Welton "Carolyne", age 78 of Wahoo, died peacefully at home Monday, April 29, 2013 in the loving presence of her devoted husband of 57 years, George. She was born in Mead, Nebraska on February 12, 1935 to Clair and Velma (Lineberry) Sullivan. Carolyne graduated from Wahoo High School in 1953, then attended Luther College in Wahoo, Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska, and received her teaching certificate from Midland College in Fremont. She taught, each for one year, at District 5 in Ashland, District 46 South of Fremont, and Mead Public School. In fact, she taught her entire life how to live with grace, compassion, and abundant generosity. She married her high school sweetheart, George Welton, on February 18, 1956 in Sacramento, CA, where he was stationed in the Air Force. Together they formed a strong marriage that continues to serve as a model for their family. Carolyne was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo. She was a deeply faithful woman who was graced with a willingness to give fully of herself to others. She started each day with a reading and meditation and truly lived out her faith through her kind works to friends, neighbors, and strangers. She rejoiced in being a part of her church family and was often the first person to greet visitors on Sunday mornings and to help them feel welcome at the church. She actively took part in Women's Bible Study, the Presbyterian Women, and the funeral lunch committee. Carolyne possessed a generosity of spirit and was a committed community volunteer. As a result, she garnered a reputation as a cherished friend. She held dear the "art of the written letter" and was in regular contact with her family and friends through her letter writing. She embraced her sons and daughters-in-law as if they were her natural children and they loved to be with her. Her grandchildren and new great-grandson were the lights of her life and she was tremendously proud of each of them. Carolyne often remarked that her greatest accomplishment was being a stay at home mom and raising her children. She had no regrets for her life. Carolyn was a devoted wife to George C. Welton, loyal sister to Roger Sullivan, loving mother to Ross Welton (wife Debby), Rene' Welton, Ryan Welton (wife Mary), and Robyn Welton-Brown (husband Andy). She rejoiced in being a grandmother to Trapper Welton, Cora Lu Welton, Elizabeth Murray, Anne Murray, Mary Kate Murray, Ashley Welton-Thiessen (husband Josh), Megan Welton, Madison Brown, Huntington Brown, and Bailey Brown. And was an adoring great-grandmother to Owen Thiessen. The family requests that charitable donations be made in Carolyne's honor, in lieu of flowers, to First Presbyterian Church. It is her wish that all who knew her practice "Random Acts of Kindness." Her family is grateful to the staff of Hospice and Home Healthcare of Saunders County, especially Tammie Huffaker and Matt Danowski, for the loving-kindness and extraordinary care they provided.
