Betty L. Jordan was born August 9, 1923 on a farm near Ceresco, Nebraska. She was the last of 14 children born to Fred and Anna (Otto) Bergman. At a young age, she moved with her family to a farm near Ithaca. Betty attended District 16 until 7th grade when the family relocated to a farm near Weston, Nebraska. She finished her school years there, graduating in 1940. She worked on the family farm until March, 1947, when she married Fred "River" Jordan. They had two children: Laurie Chapman (Jordan Miller) of Omaha, Nebraska, and Robert Jordan (wife Cynthia) of Austin, Texas. When her children were grown, Betty returned to work as a clerk at J. C. Penney. Later, she became a dental assistant, retiring in 1988. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church where she was a lifetime member. She was preceded in death by her husband "River"; brothers Carl, Herb, Ben, Alva, Oscar, Edwin, and Otto; sisters Emma, Caroline, Esther, Alice, Annabelle and Frances. Betty is survived by her children; three granddaughters: Jennifer Sellin, Christina Sellin, and Kelly Jacob (Doug Radik); one great-granddaughter Camille Jacob; step grandchildren: Andrea (Ernie) Cochran, Tony (Amy) Klaer, and Alyson Klaer; step-great-grandchildren: Madison Klaer, Kennedy and Reagan Cochran, Tony and Emmy Klaer; sisters-in-law Lois Heldt and Connie Jordan; brothers-in-law: Harold (Darlene) Jordan and Cecil Jordan; many nieces and nephews; and special friends: Meg Bonow, Donna Swoboda, Tootie Meese, Loretta Peterson, and Ruth Beranek. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, April 30 at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Ithaca. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Sunrise Cemetery in Wahoo. Casket Bearers will be John Berggren, Friz Bergman, Ivan Bergman, Steve Heldt, Rick McKinley, and Rob Bonow. Memorials are suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church.
